Birds > Anseriformes > Ruddy shelduck Tadorna ferruginea

info

It was worth flying to Fuerteventura to see ducks - ruddy shelducks, there on the rocky, brown desert. A shelducks pair allowed me to take a few photos, but any attempt to reduce the distance always ended with their departure. Always, as I tried three times to capture them in the best possible way. Ruddy shelduck’s weight does not exceed 1.6 kilogram and a wingspan is less than 1.5 meter. Pictures showing them in flight with  the desert landscape in the background, are probably the most interesting and most representative of the species in my gallery. We also found a large group of shelducks beside waters, but the distance was so long that only a documentary photo could be taken.

Another beautiful, amazing place in Turkey. Large lake located in the beautiful mountains of Turkey, and a thousand, maybe two thousands of ruddy shelducks on the shore of the lake. Dozens of gray herons, squacco herons, hundreds of cormorants, gulls, pied avocets and ubiquitous migrating bee-eaters. It was hardly possible not to hear the sound of flocks of bee-eaters every hour. Unfortunately they were flying so fast and chaotically that I was not able to take any picture. But let us back to ruddy shelducks. Not so long ago, on Fuerteventura I photographed them for the first time. How surprised I was when coming closer to the lake I could see on the shore thousands of waterfowl, including ruddy shelducks. I could not come closer, but I added a few pictures of the flocks flying against the beautiful mountains and creating an unforgettable scene.

A few interesting photos of the ruddy shelduck taken in Mongolia were a reason to rebuild the „desert” gallery of this bird.
