info

Encouraged by the recent photographic "achievements" in Świnoujście, less than two weeks later I decided to try my luck in the Gulf of Puck. I have made a few phone calls to friendly people to locate the best place (my thanks to Mr. Bogdan), and another attempt was made to take photos of the species which, if you would like to shoot in a place where they breed, you should organize a real expedition around the North Pole. I went for my first walk along the seaside and despite walkers I could see a heavy birds’ traffic on the beach. There was a moment of peace further away from passers-by and, even though the identification of species of sandpipers still causes me problems, I noticed that there was feeding a species of bird which was new to me. Later it turned out to be a sanderling. A bird of a small size, because its weight is about 100 grams with a wingspan of about 35 centimeters, was chased by even smaller ringed plover. Sanderlings tend to be in Poland only in passing and the most often on the coast. They nest in tundra, on the ground. Sanderlings preyed on the beach very quietly ignoring my presence. While I was staying still, sanderlings approached so much that I had to wait until they go away, because it was too close for autofocus to work properly. Those shoots at the morning and afternoon were so successful that it let me prepare a new gallery on my website. Unfortunately, during the observation the birds did not give out sounds, so we have photos without a sound, but still welcome.

I have added some photographs of a sanderling, that I took in Świnoujście while I was looking for a black-tailed godwit.
Last minute news - South Africa 02/2017
Despite the fact that no spectacular photos of sanderlings were taken I decided to put some and mention it in the information about this species. In Poland these birds can be photographed during migration with no problem. The situation was similar this time, what differed was the environment, South Africa by the Indian Ocean. It is fascinating that the birds could be exactly the same individuals. Apart from the northern hemisphere sanderlings can be found in Australia and in the southern Africa.

As it was said in the information placed in the common scoter gallery, the Hel Peninsula is always worth visiting, especially when birds migrates. This time my visit resulted in new photos enriching a few galleries. The sanderling gallery is fortified with dynamic pictures of the bird in flight, just what I like the most

He was the most numerous bird on the beaches of Heligoland during our stay. The whole herd, moving very quickly on the beach, was taking off to fly every now and then under any pretext. Sometimes preying, they approached us several centimeters. Many interesting photos were taken and the gallery was rebuilt.

Last minute news-09/2022 - Greater Poland
I added two photos of the Sanderling to the gallery, and actually swapped them with two existing photos. So the gallery did not undergo any remodeling, but the photos were meant as an excuse to add information to this species on my site. This time I photographed the Sanderling in Greater Poland, the first time! I always went to the seaside to be able to photograph these birds, and here it go, this time the Sanderling flew to me. What's more, it was accompanied by Dunlin’s, Curlew Sandpipers and Common ringed plover. A view truly like from a beach in autumn at the Polish seaside. Unfortunately, the birds were very skittish and not many photos were taken, but such observation should be included in information on my website.
Last minute news-10/2022
Our previous attempts to photograph Eurasian Curlews were always related to dawn, in the morning. And, since the scenario of the birds' behavior always repeated itself and it was difficult to get photos in good light, something has to change in our operation. I decided to sit in the shelter from noon to dusk. I wonder if Curlews frequent the reservoir during the day and feed on it. To find out you have to watch from the shelter and check. As I planned so I did. Already on the very approach to the shelter a pleasant surprise. Several charadiiformers  dabblers took flight at the sight of me. As it turned out a very short one, because they made a small circle and sat between me and the shelter few dozen meters away. The first pictures were taken just like over our sea during the autumn bird migration. This lasted a minute or two, because it is necessary to enter the shelter, because it is for the Curlews that I came here. For a few hours of waiting in the shelter, almost only the diarrheas appeared in front of the lens: the variable, the curlew and the sandpiper. During those few hours of waiting, I had a whole range of light and weather variability. From steel-contrast sunshine to a rainy downpour to, at the end of the day, a beautiful soft yellow light. In this light, the Gray heron, one of my favorite species, joined the ranks of photographed birds. Interesting photos of all these mentioned species are produced, so this text is common to all the mentioned species. Well, at a rather unusual time, a lot of interesting photos were created, introducing enough changes in the galleries to hit all the photographed species to the news on my website. For the first time in my life I photographed charadriiformes from shelter. They were almost all the time with me. Around 6:30 pm, the light was low enough that I decided to stop photographing at this point. After packing up for a while, I leave the chat room walking in the shallows towards to the car. Suddenly I hear a familiar voice, which for several days has always announced the arrival of Curlews. Birds always landed with making their characteristic sound. I turned around and they are!  All seven of the Curlews, by now birds that had been observed for probably over a month. They landed on an island far away from me. A commemorative documentary photo emerged, which I added, for the time being, to the end of the  Curlew gallery. The birds stay there exclusively from dusk to dawn.
