Birds > Passerine > Southern grey shrike Lanius meridionalis

info

I have seen the southern grey shrike many times. Unfortunately, it is a very skittish bird and shrikes had flown away before I managed to prepare or focus. Its shyness is a bit strange as it is a predator after all. Maybe because there on the island kestrels are quite common. Once I managed to capture the southern grey shrike in the beautiful scenery. It was sitting among low vegetation looking for its victims. Then, fortunately, it decided to move on to another observation point and luckily flew towards me. This allowed me to enrich my gallery. That was only a pity that the sun was already starting to set, and shooting with settings of the ISO 2000 and the time 1/60 brought only acceptable effect, because of a sequence of photos. And here we have the southern grey shrikes’ gallery, which at the moment is more interesting than that of our great grey shrike, which is so similar to the first one.
Last minute news - 11/2017 Spain
It appeared in front of our lenses in a hide in Spain several times. Unfortunately, I missed the opportunity to record the southern grey shrike’s voice. However, some much better pictures were taken, which changed the quality of the gallery and its rating from sufficient to a very good one.
