A Redstart, especially its male, is a grateful object to photograph. Female can be easily mistaken for a Black Redstart. Redstart occurs quite numerously in Poland on allotment gardens. My pictures were taken right there, during the barbecue. So lurking and numerous attempts to take a photo, in this case, were not related to any renunciations, despite many people walking around. As it befits to a small sized birds, Redstart is quite frisky, especially at the time of feeding its younglings. That is why you need to be patient photographing this colorful bird. Redstarts weigh around 20 grams and their wingspan does not exceed 25 centimeters. In October, after breeding, they fly away to Central Africa.
Last minute news – 05/2013
Most of the photos published in the gallery of Redstart were taken in May, in the Rope Park, where redstarts reared their offspring at a height of 1.5 meters in a rotten trunk. People who every now and then were showing up near the nest (at a distance of several centimeters) really seemed not to bother them. Redstarts showed a great deal of patience in waiting until the distance got increased to a few meters, then immediately flew in providing insects to their offspring. Often they kept sitting on outstretched ropes posing to the photos from a few meters. I posted a few photos taken on allotment gardens where they had the nest nearby. Thus, the two walks with my camera, without camouflaging, radically changed the content of Redstart’s gallery.
Last minute news – 05/2014
Another photos of the Redstart were taken in my home garden. In the nest box that was situated on the tree firstly tits hatched out, and then after a few days redstarts moved in there. The female was busy with the incubation of eggs while the male hovered around waiting for her to come out of the nesting box. I stuck a stick into the lawn and for the Redstart male it was a favorite place to make observations when looking for its mate. During their meeting it was excited and full of energy. It accompanied her every step. Unfortunately, the young suddenly left the nest together with their parents and I was not able to take any family photos of redstarts.
