Well, I didn’t succeed. Making preparations for the trip to Malta I read about birds which occur on the island and watched hundreds of photographs on the Internet. I must admit that apart from the blue rock thrush I wanted to take some pictures of the Sardinian warbler. The black plumage of its head and the red rim around its eye, makes it a charming bird. Although the Sardinian warbler is quite a common bird on Malta and despite of the fact I saw it several times, it was difficult for me to take a picture of it. The skittishness of birds on Malta is very high and photographing, especially such small birds is a challenge. By way of consolation and as complement to the gallery I managed to record the sound of the Sardinian warbler. While I was waiting for a longer while for a good opportunity to shoot (well, „shoot” doesn’t sound well in the context of a report from Malta so it is better to say „to take an interesting picture”), the warbler was singing all the time. I was unable to take a photo of the Sardinian warbler due to tree branches but I could record its sound without any problems.

Several attempts to photograph a sardinian warbler resulted in a photo of a female of this species. The birds were very skittish and even though I saw them several times I failed to take photos and replace the previous documentary photos with better ones.

Like in case of the blue rock thrush, my first encounter with the Sardinian warbler was on Malta. Similarly, the photos taken at that time were of very poor quality, and they had merely documentary value, which is a pity, as it is a very beautiful bird, especially the males’ plumage is impressive. In Spain, sitting in a hide, near a special drinker built for the birds, it was not easy to encounter a Sardinian warbler. Robins, crested tits, blackcaps – they were all in large numbers. Sardinian warbler however, were very skittish and they occurred very rarely. Luckily, I took enough good quality pictures from these short encounters and the gallery lost its „documentary” status.

Sardinian warblers were quite common in Sardinia. Several interesting shots introduced the variation into the gallery and a better recording of the voice of the warbler was made.
