„A boar is wild, a boar is nasty, his tusks are sharp but a bit rusty. Whenever you hear…” Jan Brzechwa. There is some truth about this quote. In most cases a wild boar will run away when it sees us but if it attacks it can be very dangerous because of its huge weight and sharp tusks. Males’ weight can exceed 300 kilograms. As you can see in my gallery I have never had the opportunity to take high quality photos of wild boars and I hope it will change in the future, without any unexpected adventures. The time will show...

I have just felt the first entry about this species on my own skin. I was spending the Sunday photographing Eurasian Wrens, Crested and Marsh Tits in the bushes. I have left the track downwards to readapt to the changing lighting conditions (sun was coming out through the clouds). People were passing behind me, from time to time, looking with curiosity, wondering what I saw and try to photograph. As it turned out I have not noticed that at the 8-10 metres distance from me there was a shapely boar (portraits in the gallery) sitting there, frightened no less than I was. Luckily, it did not wade further in the bushes and gave me time to calmly move out. But it might have ended rather differently...

These pictures of Wild boar added here were created while I tried in vain to take photos during the rut. It was also quite exciting. I stopped the car in the woods an hour before dawn and waited until the deer uttered a sound. When I could  hear some noises started to walk very quietly towards the sound. It was necessary to be careful because the slightest noise, not to mention the adverse wind, could finish the session. But this time there was no wind, although cloudy with the slight rainfall. So exactly opposite to the weather forecast I had found on meteorological websites. I covered the distance of about 2 km and the forest became more and more dense. When I turned right into the forest firebreak, at first quite overgrown and bushy, I noticed on my left side at a distance of a few meters the herd of boars dozing at dawn. For sure among them were this year cubs, juveniles. How vigorously they leaped up it is hard to describe, just like my impressions. In those circumstances where you can hear the sound of a twig breaking under your feet and it is perceived as a noise, sudden intense turmoil and the herd of boars’ squeal is a veritable cannonade of sounds. I guess I moved too quietly. Well, I decided to stay here and watch a little bigger firebreak, despite the lack of sufficient light. The idea was a good one. Deer, roe deer and wild boars ran across the forest. Unfortunately, photos are just a record, in fact a kind of memorabilia of  being in close contact with the boars. Nevertheless, the place is interesting and beautiful, if the weather forecast worked out the quality of pictures would be radically different. But if we can't as we would, we must do as we can...

Oh, this gallery is being  created with such a difficulty, and 100% of it are photos taken by chance.  So it was this time. I was sitting in the same spot, in which a few weeks before I photographed the white-tailed eagle on a spruce and buzzards. Unfortunately this time not even ravens appeared in the prepared place. Luckily, as some sort of compensation, a boar appeared for 25 seconds. It went on the left side of the hide  and disappeared into the forest. There was a glade in the forest that was cut by quite a deep ditch. The wild hog easily forded the ditch, and the photos of the boar dripping with water taken against the rising sun came out at least intriguing. And so I’ve uploaded a few photos, which are perhaps the most interesting pictures of the boar I have taken so far.

During the first photo shooting from my new shelter I managed to take a few pictures of a wild boar. Unfortunately, the boar sensed us and I took only a few pictures, and then it disappeared in the reeds.  Only a few photos, but probably the most interesting ones, of this mammal on my website.

I heard about the plague of boars in Poland, but it was there in Kołobrzeg while photographing at dawn in the park by the sea, that I experienced it on my own. About 20 meters from the pedestrian zone in the city park three wild boars preyed within several meters of the walkers. Pretty strange feeling. I took a few photos that have been added to the gallery.
