Although, I haven’t got any interesting and impressive gallery of a deer so far, I think that this species will always be an interesting object for photography. Especially males - there is something majestic about their postures, antlers and behavior. For such a large animal, which may weigh up to 200 kilograms, they are still extremely timid and hard to observe. Their sense of smell is so sensitive that even a slight breath of wind with our scent may startle a deer. I think that deers have a sensitive hearing also, because whenever I set the shooting mode and pressed the camera button, it always ended up with the look towards me or fleeing. It all makes sense considering the environment they live in. In the woods it is difficult to see clearly, it is peaceful and silent. Thus a scent and noise alert them of the potential dangers. It is worth remembering when going into the forest. If we want to see something, it is best to watch your steps carefully, not to mention making noise. I truly recommend it.

Two photography attempts to capture red deer in September 2013, as you see,  didn’t bring significant changes in the deer gallery.  Maybe I didn’t manage to take any pictures, but I had a whole lot of excitement. Following roaring males or waiting for them to emerge from behind the trees, I could hear their stentorian voice. I assure you that in a forest, when it is still dark or when the sun is rising, when after 2-3 kilometers of noiseless walk you suddenly hear a red deer’s stentorian roar-like sound, it makes a huge impression on you and is an amazing experience. I managed to record roaring deer, and their sounds have enriched my gallery. It is said that only during a rut it is possible to photograph them, as they are so involved in competing for females that they don’t eat, and their watchfulness significantly decreases, giving you the opportunity to approach them. The stag, which I observed had really impressive antlers. Standing in tall grass and roaring at the sunrise, it created a magnificent scene from the life of our fauna. Unfortunately there was too little light to take a good-quality photo, but this sublime view will stay in my memory.

Mid-October is coming up soon and consequently the rut has come to an end. Six photography attempts altogether haven’t resulted in taking pictures which I could dream of, inspired by the work of others in this regard. Only after such struggles and effort can one see how much luck, determination and proper lighting conditions are needed to take photos of roaring stags with magnificent antlers on a frosty morning. Although these are not the pictures I would expect, but the gallery had been so poor that it had never been shown among the news of my webpage. At the end of the session I managed to take some shoots of a stag in frosty grass (my thanks to Jakub) and decided to  place them among the news, although I already know that I will endeavor to radically change this gallery next year. During the rut I had a whole lot of excitement and experiences. Thanks to the last two times I was waiting for red deer, I managed to take some better pictures of the European green woodpecker, the mistle thrush, the Eurasian sparrowhawk, the white-tailed eagle, the common buzzard and the fox. The sounds of red deer, common cranes, common buzzards and common ravens were recorded. They are not perfect recordings, but it is becoming more and more difficult to make such. When you are recording sounds you can often hear the background being not the sounds of nature at all. See for yourselves next year if I was successful “remodeling” the red deer gallery.

While I was photographing jays unexpectedly from the right side came on a herd of young deer. Unluckily they were so watchful that they turn back as soon as noticed me shooting. Thus these pictures are typical for backside photography, that is those croup/rear photos of running away/flying off animals. As for now the deer gallery is not large so every new picture is appreciated.

Waiting unsuccessfully for the northern goshawk, there in the lookouts in the end of the day unexpectedly showed a small herd of deer. I have added a few pictures to the gallery.

Recently I have seen many beautiful pictures of deer and I would like to change my modest achievements in this field. Unfortunately, the changes took place, but not so radical and significant that the gallery found its way to the news on my website. This time, more impressions than photos remained from the shooting. In the dark, the roar of deer is impressive, especially when there are many of them and they are quite close. Unfortunately, the morning light prompts them to return from open areas and it is becoming more and more difficult to take pictures. Well, I will stay with the birds, and maybe I will succeed with deer someday, quite by accident, as sometimes happens in nature photography ...
