Birds > Passerine > African Golden-Weaver Ploceus subaureus

info

Finally I managed to photograph several species of weavers while in South Africa. This text is common to all them except the long-tailed widowbird and the grosbeak weaver. Encounters with the two species were so interesting, different from those with the other weavers, it had to be reflected in information in separate texts. These birds could be observed and photographed in such large number, because the number of their species and the abundance of individuals there in South Africa is shocking. At every step you can see their characteristic spherical nests and often quite numerous in colonies. Sometimes driving along the pastures fenced with barbed wire could be seen a small stream of water flowing among them,  a stream of a width about 20 cm, above the three rows of barbed wire and a on the top wire a small colony of weavers, one nest by another side-by-side. It is quite amazing, because less than a meter of fence’s height was enough for weavers to build their small colony. You can see it in a photo posted in my gallery.
This text relates to galleries: forest weaver, southern red bishop, -crowned bishop, fan-tailed widowbird, cape weaver, african golden-weaver, red-billed quelea.
