Finally, to my gallery go other representatives of the thick-knee family. So far I managed to photograph only bush thick-knee in Australia. During our stay in South Africa I gained two more species: the water thick-knee and the spotted thick-knee, and this text is common to both. I had two opportunities to watch a water thick-knee. The first while on the cruise along a reservoir, the second during the observation of pied kingfishers. These images come from the first encounter. Water thick-knees were fairly easy to spot watching the shoreline. It was much harder to spot a spotted thick-knee. It often keeps staying in the bushes, hardly moving and closely watching the countryside. Probably it assumes that as long as it is still you cannot see it. Moving slowly, even by car, we could reduce the distance from the bird to a few meters and take a convenient position for photographing. Then the joy and satisfaction of a good shot immediately gives way to a desire to take other, more interesting pictures of a spotted thick-knee to an attractive, more diverse gallery. But the spotted thick-knee is standing still and watching, watching, watching...
