Not so long ago in Sri Lanka I was shocked at how close to people live a few species of owls and here in Cuba another surprise. In two places where we photographed hummingbirds, landlords asked the question whether we would want to photograph the Cuban pygmy-owl. Initially we were confused, because we did not want to get distracted and move to another place, as we preferred to take good pictures of hummingbirds. Meanwhile, he pointed to a nearby trunk of a palm tree with a hollow at a height of just over two meters, and the Cuban pygmy-owl looking out. Hummingbirds behind us, an owl in front of us, it was great – worth bearing hardships and travel costs. It happened this way in a few places, so I think they are not at risk. To me an important species of owl for two reasons: it is an endemic species of owl in Cuba, and besides, it is the sixth species of the family of pygmy-owls on my site, and with a non-documentary content.
