English Little Bustard means Strepet. The difference is indeed significant. Little Bustard's weight is almost 1 kilogram, while Bustards weigh dozen or so kilograms (males). The environment of those creatures are alike – vast meadows and pastures with small grass. I took presented pictures in Spain. In Poland the species is accounted to migrating birds and some sources say that their occurrence in our country has not been noted for couple of years. In Europe it occurs mostly on the Iberian Penninsula and the southern France. Sitting, at night, in the watching booth waiting for the sunrise and the Little Bustard I have recorded quite unusual sound. At first it was a sound resembling a falling ping-pong ball ending with characteristic sound (sound attached in the gallery). And as the first part of the sound could only be heard at close quarters, the ending of the bustard's voice was heard from a significant distance. Unfortunately, it was hard to locate and looking at the grass in an attempt to trace it by its voice did not give any results. But, what were the watching spots invented for? There came the expected effect. Little Bustard makes quite unusual jumps at dusk. It walks through the grass, when suddenly it jumps tens of centimeters up, spreading its wings. I do not know whether it seeks for a female from above or is it sort of a rivalization on who jumps higher. “My” bustard cooperated during the photo shoot almost perfectly. He often jumped right in front of the camera. For a full happiness I only lacked the distance shortened by couple of meters and some more light and its heart's chosen one around. Well, I hope all of my new galleries will have such a portfolio at a start. In this species' case, it might turn out hard to develop, as it means travelling to Iberian Penninsula, Mediterranean Sea, Caucasus or southern Asia, so it's not a weekend trip...
