Parasitic jaeger
Charadriiformes

Unfortunately parasitic jaegers were not as easy to photograph as the other species. I have seen them several times from a quite significant distance as they were trying to get food over meadows where oystercatchers and redshanks nested. From a distance I could see concerned parents collectively repelling the aggressor’s attack. The parasitic jeager nests on the ground. Its weight is below 400 grams, with a wingspan of about 1.2 meters.

Patagonian Sierra-Finch
Passerine

I managed to encounter a Patagonian sierra-finch in several places. The best photos were taken on a small desert island during a few-hour cruise, while photographing two cormorant species and young petrels. A Patagonian sierra-finch on the background of the colorful, Patagonian landscape sticks in one’s memory. All the pictures presented here were taken in the south of Argentina.  A Patagonian sierra-finch weighs about 25 grams, with a wingspan of a dozen or so centimeters.

Peaceful Dove
Columbidae

The name of this bird (in Polish diminutive form for pigeon) is adequate for its size. Dove, pigeon representative in Australia is actually dainty. Its wingspan is about 20 cm. Unfortunately it was timid and after taking the picture it was leaving. However, shooting other species I was able to take a few photos of the Dove.

Pearl Kite
Accipitriformes

This is the smallest carnivorous bird that lives on Costa Rica. Its weight does not exceed 100 grams with a wingspan of about 50 cm. While we were driving along the coast we saw a pearl kite sitting on a power line. After a while it flew onto a nearby isolated tree. We walked several dozen meters towards it to take photos. There were four of us, and yet we couldn’t see that the bird was there. It was difficult to spot it due to its tiny size. It was Tadeusz who noticed it and that’s how the pictures presented here were taken.
