It could only happen in Sri Lanka, to see four species of owls in one day! As a rule, the owls were found in the close neighbourhood of houses where Sri Lankan led their life. Some of them liked the rather high, densely branched shrub, a few meters from the entrance of the house. But it is always needed to be lucky enough to have "clean" space to take a picture, on which the bird is not covered by any branches. I tried to record the voice of the jungle owlet that was sitting in the garden at the back of one of the houses, but the sounds of the civilization in the area made it difficult. Well, we were only temporary guests there and we had to adjust to what we found rather than the other way round. Nevertheless, it is surprising that owls live literally a few dozen meters from people who do their daily activities. The brown fish-owl was not so easy found as the birds were sitting quite high on a tree by the river, where quite steep, muddy banks made it hard to approach and observe them.
