This bird will give me a heart attack one day. It has happened a few times that, while I was walking in the morning, when it was still dark, through a field or along the edge of the forest, towards a hide, suddenly, from under my feet a pheasant flies up with a loud scream. It waits until the last second, hoping that it will stay unnoticed. Not only will it make a lot of piercing noise, but also fly right in front of one’s eyes. And it does not belong to small birds. It weight reaches 1.5 kilograms, and its wingspan reaches 80 cm. Males are definitely easier to notice, and they are without a doubt more beautiful thanks to their colors and gleaming bright feathers. Pheasants are also raised on special farms, for the purposes of hunting clubs and retail sale.

What a surprise it was for me when passing through the road extending along the field I noticed a flock of birds. At first I did not know what kind of birds they were, but large enough to be visible from the ring road. My house was not far away so I went for the camera and returned. Without leaving the car I took photos of pheasants, all of them female. The session was short as they came to the conclusion that the slowly moving car, however, was a threat to them and flew away so far that it was impossible to take a picture. It was amazing that in the area surrounded by buildings and asphalt road there could be found a small piece of the field on which a flock of pheasants fed.

Firstly I would like to thank for risk and sacrifice the cock pheasant bore, to let me take some unique shots of the eagle which attacked the pheasant in flight. To be quite serious. While I was sitting in the eagle’s lookout a flock of pheasants appeared from time to time. It would not be surprising, but one cock behaved differently. It sometimes preyed close to the young white-tailed eagles at disrespectfully short distance. I could predict how this would end and I kept having my eye on them, or more precisely the viewfinder on daringly preying cock. I guess it was the fourth approach when the eagle launched the attack, fortunately for the pheasant it was a failure. The situation became dangerous, for pheasant, in one of the shots you can see its tail feathers almost touch the white-tailed eagle. In order not to repeat, moreover the pheasant is out of focus, the images are published in the white-tailed sea eagle’s gallery. To the gallery of the pheasant I have added some pictures of pheasants’ flock  while feeding in a beautiful subdued light. I did not manage to photograph the whole flock as it approached very close to the lookout and it was impossible to take such photo. So many interesting shots were created that I rebuilt the gallery totally, so you are welcome...

It was early April, when in the afternoon I went to check - what was heard in the area after winter? And what we can see here, a western marsh harrier for the first time in this year, reed bunting, common goldeneye, and a beautiful pheasant walking around. Maybe a hundred meters away, two females, but much more timid (no pictures). I only had a 300-millimeter lens, the first images were taken just out of the car, and then after leaving it another ones. I thought the pheasant took fright after I left, but apparently it was “spotlight addicted”, it walked about watching me, and I could take pictures (full frame) ad nauseam. Such a pretty extraordinary encounter should be noted and the gallery need to be reconstructed.

Awaiting bluethroats, around our lookout we heard voices of pheasants and roebucks. It was the time and a place to complete the galleries of these animals with recordings of their voices. If they were not so far, the quality of the recording would be better, but for many years I had no such an opportunity so I could not miss it and added the first soundtrack to these galleries. With sounds it is  a bit like with photos when it comes to an improvement of a gallery. There are needed a few meetings at close range to take good photos, to create interesting galleries that show animals in different situations, with a variety of lighting. And never the same shots have been taken - it's probably the most valuable in nature photography that we do not know what and when is likely to be captured. New opportunities for even more interesting shots continue to surprise…

After visiting the white-tailed eagle’s  shelter, the gallery changed again.

Throughout the day spent in the shelter, raptors appeared every few hours and some variety during the long wait was provided by a Pheasant and a Hooded Crows. The light was excellent and there are some interesting photos for the Pheasant gallery.
