Although not many photos of these monkeys exist, it's worth noting their presence and creating a dedicated gallery on my website for this unique species. I’m referring to the only monkey that naturally inhabits the European continent – the Barbary macaque, also known as the Barbary ape.

This species, though semi-wild, is often seen on rooftops and walls across Gibraltar. The monkeys roam freely through the city, which makes them a truly unique phenomenon within the European fauna. Their population consists of only a few hundred individuals, yet they live entirely in the wild.

I’ve had the chance to encounter wild monkeys during my travels to Thailand, Sri Lanka, and India. The photos presented here were taken in a similar setting – in this remarkable enclave in southern Europe. All the more reason why these monkeys deserve their own gallery – as the only wild-living monkeys in Europe.
