Birds > Galliformes > Grey partridge Perdix perdix

info

As I have recently written in the information about the stock dove – I came back to the place where I’d hoped to take better pictures of these doves in the sunrise. Naturally, for such an encounter one wouldn’t do without using seed as bait, but this time I was out of luck. Well, maybe not  completely, as I managed to take my first photos of grey partridges, which I value as it is a new species for me. Grey partridges appeared on the left, unfortunately at a substantial distance. A 600 with a 1.4X converter was not enough to take good pictures. However, as it happens with my galleries, I have to have something to start with.  And those beginnings with other species were sometimes much poorer. Osprey, common whitethroat waited for qualitative changes for several years. My previous two chance encounters with grey partridges did not end even in one documentary photo. Luckily, about half an hour later, after the grey partridges disappeared in the field of rape, they came out of it just in front of me. Several much better pictures are taken. I had been looking for some hint where to photograph these beautiful representatives of Galliformes in our country for a long time. “It is not easy and it’s best to try to do it on the fields in winter” -  I heard. And here such a surprise. Although there’s much to do regarding the quality of the grey partridge photos, the gallery gets into the news section.

My two returns to the place where I photographed grey partridges for the first time did not end in some spectacular photo success. However, almost one and a half hours of observing grey partridges gave me an opportunity to get some knowledge of their behavior. One of birds would always monitor the surroundings looking out for dangers. Observation of two birds searching for food was a rarity. Most often the male would guard the place, while the female would eat or take a short nap. Unfortunately this time the distance was substantial too and I couldn’t do without a converter. Moreover, the intensely yellow morning light did not allow me to take better pictures. But what’s important for me it’s the fact that I know where to come back. May the grey partridges not change their habits…

Not counting one accidental Grey Partridge photo, this was my second encounter with these birds after 7 years. This time very fruitful and not accidental. Not accidental because in Halina's shelter (Halina: greetings and thanks- link). There the birds sometimes appear in front of the shelter. Birds are very unpredictable with this appearance and you just have to try and have a bit of luck to take pictures. This time the luck was good, because the birds appeared three times. The weather was a bit unlucky as the light was intense and clouds would have been useful to reduce the contrast of the photos. The progression of photos presented in the Grey Partridge gallery together is considerable and the gallery has been rebuilt. It was also possible to record the Grey Partridge's voice. This is the 231st recording of the voice of birds belonging to the fauna of Poland. Such changes need to be presented in the news - finally another gallery with „satisfactory ” photo content disappears.
