California quails typically inhabit the western part of the United States and Canada. It was introduced in New Zealand in 1860. I was successful to meet and take photos of this bird in the northern part of the southern island. I saw it only once and only at dawn. The quail is a tiny-sized bird. It never weighs more than 180 grams. It is up to 30 centimetres long. It belongs to the family of galliformes. I was really delighted to meet this species, as the representatives of the family are presented in just several pictures in my gallery.
