Birds > Passerine > Common Grasshopper Warbler Locustella naevia

info

It was not easy to take the pictures shown here. The one things is that the Common Grasshopper Warbler is a rarity in Poland. The second thing is that it is inclined to wander around grass and I could barely spot it. However, I could it hear it from the distance. Fortunately, it left the tufts of grass from time to time and it was possible to take the photos. It was thanks to the European Stonechat that was eating nearby. Patience was needed, but in the anticipation of the Common Grasshopper Warbler leaving its hiding, I found time passing quickly and conversations about experiences in taking photos more interesting (greetings to Robert). The name of the Grasshopper Warbler comes from the sound it makes. Its song resembles the sound made by the Grasshoppers and is so loud that on that occasion I first recorded the voice and only later were the photos taken. It was not easy to record its sound on a wide meadow in the morning and not all background noises were removed from it. This, however, provides the sound background to the photographs shown here. There is no need to hide the sheer joy that follows from the successful photo session of such a rare bird. Not only do the pictures remain, but also there is a great number of them to choose from and there is a voice recording. The weight of the Common Grasshopper Warbler is about a dozen grams and its wingspan is about 20 centimeters. It builds the nests only on the ground. Feel invited to view the gallery and listen to this bird’s voice recording. This is a new species on my webpage.
