Birds > Podicipediformes > Red-necked Grebe Podiceps grisegena

info

I always enjoy meeting a new species, especially if the species is not covered in my bird sub- galleries. So far, I’ve photographed two species of grebes family, as was the case with the Loons . Thus, the red-necked grebe finally gets to my gallery. Finally, because for some time I had been looking for places where you can meet it . Patience pays off as you can see. I wish  all the other newly founded galleries had a starter portfolio of images . It is a pity, of course , they are all a bit monotonous, on water, but it is all to be improved, like the gallery of the Lesser Whitethroat, which was based on two documentary photos. Here, there is such a variety of photos shot in the course of one week. In fact, on the banks of the bigger pond I photographed just her, when suddenly from the left the grebe swam calmly. The photos presented here were taken in these circumstances.. I was not masked, and only sat in some coastal bushes. The Red-necked Grebe can weigh less than one kilogram, and its wingspan does not exceed 70 cm.

I just created a gallery and I have already made modifications to the content. Several times I came to a place where I had taken the pictures of the Common Pochard, the Tufted Duck and the Common Sandpiper. In addition to all that, such a surprise - the Red-necked Grebes. Additionally, they were the least skittish of all the water birds. In the morning, we prepared a place for another day, we fixed camouflage nets, we added reeds, and there arrived two Red-necked Grebes and looked at us, while we were working. Great Crested Grebes and Red-necked Grebes floated away - but they did not. I took some pictures. It was the same next day. Just over the course of one month, two meetings and a new gallery is here.

The third encounter with this bird turned out to be the most interesting. Not far from where I photographed little grebes, among reeds over a small pond, I have managed to take the best by far of my photos of this bird and record its voice. This time it did not happen by chance and it was not without sacrifice. Thanks to Jacek for lending a “floating set”, and for sharing the lookout point. At dawn, with temperatures just above zero degrees, I had to literally be like a bird in the water. Nor waders nor warm clothing in the third hour of lying in the water proved to be sufficient protection. But the time I devoted was enough for taking pictures that radically changed the gallery, previously documentary one. Those all photos from my prior gallery of red-necked grebe went to the archive.

I have uploaded a few photos taken while I was waiting for shovelers. A single red-necked grebe was swimming in the center of a pond, shortening the distance from us from time to time.
