It is difficult to show all the beauty of this bird. Even not so intense light makes the purple swamphens appear black. This time we were lucky. An hour before sunset the birds were foraging on the fairly densely overgrown lake shore. The distance was small, the light was soft and perfect, and the pictures were of much better quality than those presented so far. But something difficult to ignore was that we were aware of the occurrence of salt-water crocodiles in these waters. We not only knew that they could be found there, but I really could see one of them which was more than two meters long lying on a small island several dozen meters in front of me. It would be highly preferable to go down as low as possible, close to the shore for a better perspective. However, such attempts can simply be dangerous in this place. It is said that until you are staying on the shore and do not go into the water you can feel safe. At least that's how it is in Sri Lanka, as our guide explained to me, and crocodiles can only attack people in the water.
