The hawfinch is another magnificent bird that can be found in our country, which is, however, not very well-known and people watching photos of this species are often surprised to find out that it actually occurs in Poland. Like in case of the bullfinch, I don’t have pictures of this species that would look satisfactory to me. The bird’s coloring, its majestic large beak add it charm, and one would like to have a photo gallery as rich as those devoted to the goldcrest or the long-tailed tit. That’s still ahead of me, though hawfinches can be found in our country all year round. Unfortunately they are rare and very skittish. Taking into consideration the fact that they don’t belong to large birds, they should be kept at a distance as close as 5-8 meters, in order to create such a gallery. So far it has been unreachable. The hawfinch likes various kinds of seeds, including sunflower seeds. Its body mass does not exceed 60 g, and the wingspan is about 30 centimeters. Let’s hope that this gallery will be radically transformed with time, including the comments to the photos taken.

The previous documentary gallery of the hawfinch sinks into oblivion at last. I knew where hawfinches occurred but for the last two years I haven’t had time to devote to this species. I predict some more changes in this gallery as it’s not difficult to bring anybody round to the charm of this bird. Regrettably hawfinches were very skittish and I couldn’t do without a converter, which can be seen in the pictures. I managed to record the sound of a hawfinch, but the birds made rather quiet sounds which along with the sounds of a morning forest waking up did not allow for a good quality recording. As usual, a fixed hide in the winter and feeding the birds would have brought better results. Unfortunately I haven’t seen them in the backyard feeders for the last two years, although I saw them in the vicinity in summer. The changes in this gallery are so radical that the hawfinch hits the last-minute news.

While in the hide I was watching for woodpeckers there appeared great tits, marshes, Eurasian blue tits, hawfinch and greenfinches at the feeders. I took so many interesting photos that galleries of these species were rebuilt.

Finally I had the opportunity to encounter hawfinches for the fourth time. Honestly, for them and for the redpoll I went to the sparrows' lookout. Unfortunately, also this time there were not many possibilities to watch them. Probably the temperatures above zero during the last days caused there were not many hawfinches in front of our lenses. But this time the birds were close and much better photos were taken, so the gallery was rebuilt.

While waiting for the Sparrowhawk, I managed to take exactly 3 photos of the Hawfinch. And that they are good and bring variety to the gallery have been added to it.
