I managed to meet the Olive-backed Sunbird a few times, of course always in an area where there were flowers. Unfortunately, meetings were too short to take pictures that fully show the beauty of glossy dark-blue chap of male. Sex dimorphism is well-defined in this species. In the presented pictures you can see both male and female. The chap of the female is yellow and there are not reflective blue feathers on it. Sunbirds feed largely on nectar, although during the period of rearing they do not despise small insects. Basically sunbirds occur in Africa and Asia. Dostateczne |

Why the gallery of this species is such a modest one, I have explained in the information on the Cyprus warbler. It is a pity, because there were at least three singing specimens in the bushes. Probably because of the hot weather I forgot my recording set, if this had not occured the sound would have been of better quality than the presented photos. Dobre |

Orange Weaver

Finally I managed to photograph several species of weavers while in South Africa. This text is common to all them except the long-tailed widowbird and the grosbeak weaver. Encounters with the two species were so interesting, different from those with the other weavers, it had to be reflected in information in separate texts. These birds could be observed and photographed in such large number, because the number of their species and the abundance of individuals there in South Africa is shocking. Dokumentacyjne |
