Blue-cheeked Bee-eater
Coraciiformes

I must admit that I hoped to photograph more species of bee-eaters and with better pictures. For where, if not in Africa, so colorful varieties of bee-eaters would be photographed. But not in South Africa. I managed to take some pictures of two species of bee-eaters, from the distance that the rest of my colleagues made no attempt of shooting. They have been many times to Africa and they have beautiful portraits of these wonderful, colorful birds as a result of such encounters with bee-eaters.

Blue-crowned Motmot
Coraciiformes

Motmots occur from Mexico to Argentina. They belong to beautifully colored birds of medium size (weight up to 200 grams, body length up to 50 cm, the tail is approximately 30 cm of that). Its name comes from the characteristic bill, which serrated edges look like a saw. Its decorative two tail feathers with distinctive oval-shaped tips at the ends look incredibly. It is not easy to observe and photograph a motmot  in its natural environment. As usual a bit of luck is needed and useful hints of local guides.

Hummingbirds

Although I managed to capture many species of hummingbirds, you can find there one description of all 22 species photographed in Costa Rica together. This time my expedition took longer and the light was better, I had therefore an opportunity to take many dynamic pictures. It is interesting that driving around Costa Rica after traveling several kilometers there were species of hummingbirds completely different from those we could observe earlier.

Blue-faced Honeyeater
Passerine

Oh, it is hard to -hide how pleased I am about taking pictures of this bird. Beautiful coloration, the outer ring of eyes in rich blue and olive wing feathers make a unique composition. This Honeyeater’s look in close-up seems to be of a predator, although in fact it is not a bird of prey. It feeds on nectar and fruit and invertebrates. It is a friendly bird and rarely attacks and feeds on other animals. I met them a few times, but I thought that individuals with a green eye rim were different species.
