Birds > Passerine > Eurasian Siskin Spinus spinus

info

Another small representative of the family Fringillidae. Its body mass is between 10-18 grams, hence it is half as big as the sparrow. It has a wingspan of about 20 cm. I happened to watch a flock of siskins shifting around, disturbed by a sparrowhawk. Indeed, the flight acrobatics and teamwork were so successful that the sparrowhawk had to look for another meal, at least this time. In the past, Eurasian siskins, like European goldfinches, were kept in cages, as decorative birds, also because of the pleasant way they vocalize.

Although not many photos of the Eurasian siskin were taken on the way to Nordcapp, those which I managed to take gave me an opportunity to remodel the previous gallery.

Some interesting photos, this time - of the Eurasian siskin, were taken thanks to an invitation to a feeder hide. The pictures have changed the previous content of the gallery. Jurek, thank you for your company and the invitation. I had never photographed passerines in winter in such comfortable conditions.

I was waiting in the shelter for the appearance of the Sparrowhawk. In this time I took definitely better pictures of Siskins on  my gallery this species than my previous achievements of them. I rebuilt the gallery.
