The ferruginous pygmy owl lives on Costa Rica in a much different environment from our Eurasian pygmy owl. We stop the car at around noon on a non-hardened road among haphazardly situated dwellings.  There are single buildings and large trees around us. The temperature is close to 30 degrees C, humidity is high. The guide is walking around looking out for owls in tree tops. Suddenly he points at a place where an owl is. The first shots are taken. After a while another owl flies over. Luckily they change the place where they sit and I’m able to capture the bird from various perspectives, not only ones with the sky at the background, which happens to us quite often at this time. At first glance the ferruginous pygmy owl is very similar to our Polish pygmy owl, if we compare their size and behavior. Out of several dozen species of pygmy owls, this is the third one which gets onto my webpage along with the recording of its sound.
