This beautiful bird is extremely rare is our country, though its number supposed to be increasing. I have managed to photograph it, without preparation, spontaneously on the breeding ponds. Unfortunately, it is very skittish which is why the gallery does not reflect its full charm. Egret is quite a large bird. Its body length is around 1 meter, wingspan is around 1.5 meters with a weight of around 1.5 kilograms.

It wasn't a radical change in this gallery, but having in mind the difficulty in photographing this very outnumbered bird in Poland it is worth noting. The Great Egret shared its feeding place with Little Egret near the bee-eater's colony. Those few pictures increase my humble achievements and I believe that the day will come that they all will be replaced with completely new, better pictures like with gallery of the Common Kestrel.

I have always admired these beautiful birds, unfortunately, in Poland taking pictures at close range without masking is impossible. Australia in this matter is a country of great opportunities. There I could see egrets frequently, and once even managed to take pictures straight out of the car. The Great Egret was so close that it filled the entire frame. So my gallery of this species has been radically changed. Former changes were made with photos taken in Spain, currently with those taken in Australia, maybe in the future I will have the opportunity to take beautiful pictures of our herons ...

When I was on my way home after an unsuccessful attempt to photograph the common quail, after heavy rain, I managed to take some photos of the great egret and the grey heron in amazing light at sunset. Such pictures had to go to the gallery of these birds on my website. And I think it was meant to happen, because a tree taken down by the downpour made me take a detour. Without this obstacle I would not have taken such interesting pictures of the birds.

Another reconstruction of this part of my gallery. The opportunity came up when I was taking photos of the common greenshank. The distance was probably a bit too long, but the morning light and the abundance of the birds allowed me to take many interesting pictures.

The Great Egrets can be observed more and more often in Wielkopolska. In September 2021, during the photo shooting, I counted 18 individual birds. I managed to take much more interesting photos than the ones presented in the gallery so far, but they are not as good as those taken recently of the Gray Heron. The light was not as good as during the session with Gray Herons and their bright plumage of the Great Egrets on additionally hinders the possibility of taking even better photos. The gallery has been rebuilt, but did not add to the news on my website. Thank you Halina and we must keep trying….
