info
I have managed to take the first pictures of a Greater Scaup while on my winter trip to Świnoujście, in February 2013. Most probable place was a brakewater near the city's distinctive windmill. Sitting calmly, protected from the wind I could observe how the water birds were getting more comfortable gradually swimming by closer. Greater Scaup, as you can see on the pictures in the gallery, were flying by in little flocks. Unfortunately, they landed too far for my expectations. Nonetheless, first pictures of this species are behind me and they are good enough to form a gallery. Now I need to simply improve it. In size, Scaup is not far from Mallards, Common Goldeneyes or Tufted Ducks. Weight of a Greater Scaup is around 1 kilogram and does not exceed 1.25 kilograms with a wingspan of around 0.75 meter.
Last minute news – 06/2014 Iceland
I happened to encounter the greater scaup in Iceland once on quite a big lake. The shots taken during this encounter might not be very interesting, as neither the birds nor the weather were favorable. Nevertheless the pictures introduce a certain variety in the previous modest gallery of this species.
