info
Guillemot is a third species which I managed to perpetuate during one trip (see commentary Atlantic Puffin, Cormorant). Unfortunately, there was not enough time to take larger amount of good pictures. Of course, the reason for the trip was an Atlantic Puffin and I have committed most of my attention to him. Nonetheless, I would like to mention two things about the Guillemot. First is the number of the colony. Great amounts of birds, looking at the islands and their number, can not be even counted in tens of thousands. They are situated in less accessible places then Puffins and Cormorants. Second is the shape of the bird. Observation from a further or a medium distance makes you bet that it is a colony of penguins, if it wasn't for the specimens come flying to feed the younglings. Meanwhile, Guillemots are a great flyers, in the eye of the beholder, definitely better than Puffins, for which flying seems to be somewhat difficult. Guillemot is smaller than neighbouring Cormorants. They weigh around 1 kilogram with a wingspan of around 70 centimeters.

New pictures of the common murre have been uploaded to the previous gallery. Photographing conditions were quite difficult as the pictures were taken from the top of a cliff. The colony was large and multispecies, but photographing from the cliff’s top results in quite specific shots, and even those were few. As I wrote in the text about the razorbill, the enclosed recording of the sounds of razorbills and murres is a shared recording of the three bird species and it comes from a recording of the sounds of a birds colony, and it would be difficult to isolate the sounds of each of those individual species.

Just like in Iceland, in Norway guillemots occurred in colonies together with razorbills And this time I also managed to capture its new subspecies- Spectacled murre. It was alone in a razorbills colony, but this time I managed to take slightly better pictures of this birds. Here we have some pictures of the guillemot on rocks, but also in the ocean. So the gallery has been reconstructed.
