Birds > Podicipediformes > Horned grebe Podiceps auritus

info

In Iceland I had the pleasure to photograph horned grebes a few times. It is slightly larger than our little grebe, as  its body weight can be up to 700 grams, with a wingspan of 50 centimeters. Because of its plumage this bird can be seen from a distance. Intense mating plumage is beautiful. Female  grebes, as befits an Icelandic birds, let me take photos from the shore of the lake and they were not very skittish. When I was sitting quietly they almost always swam up with interest, of course keeping a safe distance, but short enough for me to take presented pictures. I also managed to record the sound of the bird, but that was not so easy..
