Long-tailed ground squirrel
Mammals
Ground squirrels occurred in many places. Sitting peacefully not far away from their dens I observed from time to time a ground squirrel slowly sticking its head out and checking if it can leave the den safely. Several such attempts to photograph gave me material to build this gallery. During my companions’ attempts to photograph ground squirrels I recorded the sound of a ground squirrel warning other squirrels about the fact that in their squirrel colony there are two suspected intruders taking photos… Bardzo dobre |
Long-tailed jaeger
Charadriiformes
In the Atlantic Ocean the long-tailed jaeger appeared really twice during the three voyages undertaken in search of tubenoses. Luckily it was fairly close, sometimes even too close, but I managed to take pictures of this bird. The pictures show a young individual. Their weight is about 400 grams and a wingspan about one meter. The third skua goes to my gallery. Bardzo dobre |

Long-tailed tit
Passerine
Sometimes, when I show the pictures of a Long-tailed Tit, others look at it, amazed, that such a lovely and charming bird, looking almost like a plush mascot, lives in Poland for a whole year round. Long-tailed Tits live in leaved and mixed forests. I could often spot whole flocks, which, when keeping a certain distance can be photographed without masking. While visiting an open-air museum in Sanok I have spotted quite numerous flock on a singular tree. Of course, near to a forest. In Poznań they could have been spotted in a city park. Bardzo dobre |
Long-tailed Widowbird
Passerine
For long-tailed widowbird, blue crane and turacos it would be probably worth going back to South Africa to take better pictures. Long-tailed widowbirds males in the mating season have disproportionately long tail feathers. They are so extremely long compared to the rest of its body, that they seem to be apparently inconvenient in flight. Fortunately, in the area most frequently seen bird predators were amur falcons, mostly interested in large insects. Otherwise the long-tailed widowbird would be an easy prey. Bardzo dobre |
Long-tailed Woodcreeper
Passerine
We photographed in several placed on Costa Rica. In such a small country it is sometimes a matter of several dozen kilometers and one has to do with completely different species. The transportation was the biggest problem. The roads in Costa Rica do not belong to good ones, and in order to drive 80 kilometers we had to spend 3 hours in a car. We reached another photography spot. A new thing for us there was a morning photography session by a not very large white sheet, next to which a bulb was left for the night turned on. The light attracted insects all night. Dokumentacyjne |
