As I mentioned writing about the rook or the western jackdaw, photographing birds which seem all black at first glance is quite special and very difficult, and in case of ravens it is the most difficult. That’s because of their plumage which glimmers with the lightest tints of dark blue or violet. Ravens seldom let you photograph them in parks or urban areas. Most of these photos were taken on the occasion of photographing eagles from a hide. Although there were many opportunities to do that, in such conditions it is easier to take a nice and interesting picture of the eagle than the raven. Ravens are very cautious and wary. They can be best observed on fields in spring. During the mating season they perform complicated air shows, being totally absorbed with one another. Unfortunately capturing such a scene in the sky is difficult and not very effective. You have to see it for yourselves and keep it in your memory. The weight of a raven can be up to 1.5 kg, with a wingspan of even 1.5 meters.

Although in October I have not added any new pictures of ravens but this time I could complement the gallery with their voices recorded on my own. When I was waiting for deer in the rutting season, at sunrise I could see to the right of my look-out ravens gathering together. They were feeding on carrion and unfortunately when better conditions for photographing came, they were full up and flew away. I had no problems with recording their voices, just like with buzzards. I wish I had an opportunity to take a few photos of them during feeding and flight, but it was impossible as they were chasing away an eagle.

I am very pleased with the reconstruction of the ravens’ gallery. As I mentioned in the first text about the ravens, it is not easy to capture them. At dawn a hundred of ravens appeared in front of the lookout. They were alert and skittish, and any movement of lenses had to be very slow not to interrupt the photo session. The ravens bide well, because they always attracted other birds of prey, those for which we went to the lookout. It was hard to find clear and clean frame, but in the end, after many attempts, in the morning warm light I was able to take several successful photos with not too high contrast. The gallery changes its appearance and not only shows the bird in the desert landscape of Fuerteventura but also among vultures or in the company of a dog. It is interesting that one of the ravens had a white feather on its right wing, and that was the raven which accompanied the griffon vulture in the only flight that took place in front of the lookout. So we have pictures of better quality, showing more interesting company, to put it in a nutshell there are changes in the gallery of this species. Wellcome...

Finally I managed to take some interesting shots of common raven in good subtle light while waiting for a golden eagle. Subdued lighting is necessary to show a beauty of this bird. Because I took many photos and it was plenty to choose from, I have rebuilt the gallery.

This time, in front of the White-tailed eagles shelter, the light was perfect for photographing Ravens, although sometimes too little intense. Nevertheless, there are some interesting shots of Ravens that should be added to the gallery to diversify it. The gallery has been rebuilt and the Ravens gallery is now available.
