Apart from the Amur falcon, the yellow-billed kite was most common species of birds of prey in South Africa. During those two weeks we were able to watch it many times and I had plenty photos to choose from to the gallery of this species. This is the fifth species of kite on my website.
Last minute news - 12/2017 - Tanzania
That was a really close meeting with the yellow-billed kite in Tanzania. During a midday, social break in Ngorongoro, we could safely get out of the car, but we weren’t allowed to have any meals outside. It sounded quite strange and mysterious, but after many hours of sitting, one was happy to finally stretch one’s legs. I decided to eat standing near the car. After a while I understood the warnings regarding the place where we had our stopover. I felt it myself, how able and fast aviator the yellow-billed kite is. It attacked me from behind, so I hardly saw anything, I just felt my arm tug and a sudden blast of wind. It all lasted for a second, perhaps, maybe two, and after the kite’s attack, an unpleasant sensation in my hand remained. Luckily, it did not clamp its claws so hard on my hand to leave a wound  on it, after the attack on my meal. The arrival of another car caused an increase in the intensity of the kites’ activity. I stood on a bulge observing kites’ robbery attempts on tourists. Several interesting, dynamic photos of these robbers were taken and uploaded in the gallery. If only it was possible with our red kites in Poland…
