I took my first photos of the crested lark in winter. The bird wasn’t very skittish. I was approaching it slowly, while it was observing me from the corner of its eye, always keeping a distance of about 10 meters, but never moving away too far. It does not belong to colorful birds, but it can be easily distinguished by the crest on its head. It is a little bigger than a sparrow. Its body mass is about 50 grams, with a wingspan not exceeding 30 cm.

Crested larks could be seen just in front of the lookouts mostly in the morning. They were photographed from a distance of 5-7 meters, and of course when there were no other predators in sight. The existing modest gallery in the winter scenery is greatly enhanced and expanded.

This year, near Poznań, it was often possible to observe a few preying crested larks. Leaving the market, packing my groceries, I saw birds feeding among the cars in the parking. I wonder if there were so many of them this year, did they remember the times when a few years ago there was a field where they were feeding? Driving down the unpaved dirt roads, you could also see crested larks. Such an opportunity to improve the gallery shouldn’t be missed, especially since the gallery hasn’t been modified for almost 7 years and left a lot to be desired. This time I photographed almost in front of the house. In a field a few hundred meters from the house, I decided to try to take more interesting photos of them. The first hour was a disappointment as there was not a single bird. But as it happens in nature photography, it is worth being patient and waiting a bit. Several birds arrived in the second hour and they weren’t timid. Of course, they kept a distance of 5-10 meters, but it was enough to take my best photos of crested larks so far. The gallery has been radically rebuilt. There is not much left of the old content.

The Crested Lark are doing fine! In the same place where I photographed them in March, I met many Crested Lark. This time I took pictures in winter scenery, which I have added at the end of the gallery.
